Good habits:

blog

Our very first activity was related to health and hygiene we started from cutting their hair, making them to bath properly, washing their hands after using toilet, etc. We taught them good habits about personal health and hygiene. We provided them with all the facilities bathroom, meal etc. We decided a proper timetable for them. Ex. Coming to school daily, go to toilet, have a bath, using clean cloths, combing hair, having breakfast, then study etc. we were helping children to follow this timetable regularly. Some of our children were addicted to tobacco, and some other addiction. With proper counselling we started working with them. Now their addiction habits are relatively very less.

Teaching methods – our education:

blog

Some of our students were dropouts, some of them never enrolled in the school, and some of them were at the proper age for schooling. Our teacher Ms. Aarti Parab said no to text book education at very start of the school. She and eventually SBV believe in group methods to teach these children, then education through play, video play methods etc. Our teacher observed that these students will only learn in their language, if we teach them in marthi they will never understand so she took some initiative and learned their language and then taught them. Their language was pardhi, (Ex. Of how she taught: द = दांती (पारधी) दांती म्हणजे ससा (मराठी)) we had to use this method, because in our education system we cannot teach them in accent of languages, children have to learn and write their paper in main language i.e. Marathi only. This method became very useful to our children, now they are able to read, write and speak in Marathi.

Balwadi section – nursery:

blog

This is our latest programme launched in March, on the occasion of “Gudhi Padva – Marathi New Year”. We have only one container; there we accommodate all students together. But for children from 3-5 years old, there should be an open space for them. Balwadi children don’t sit at one place quietly. They keep moving here and there, makes noise, laugh, cry, we can’t make them to be quiet and sit with elder children. so we near the container only we opened a balwadi for children in age group 2-5 years old.

Our main objective to start a balwadi – nursery was to include small children in education so that they can develop interest in education before started working on roads or begging. Children will come to school, learn songs, have fun, learn letters and numbers, they be happy in nursery. For 11am to 4pm officially, but they be in balwadi for whole day, they keep place clean, play with toys, study, eat and sleep in balwadi only, at night they go to home. Another reason of starting balwadi is preventing mothers to from taking their children for begging. When any of these ladies has a small child, they tie it with dupatta and go for begging. This affects children they found it as easy way to earn money, so they also continue doing it. We have such student in primary section of school, which used to beg daily on signals.

Children are now happily living in balwadi, they also follow schedule for other students, and they all have meal together, play and do a lot fun. Now it will help them to develop their own thinking related to education. And the will grow on their own.
